Technical Manager / Technical Sales Manager required for a company who are a leading specialist producer of Fixings, Fasteners, components and accessories for the roofing and cladding industry, supplying and selling primarily to Roofing and Cladding companies, Engineers, Project Managers, Architects and Main contractors.

 

Salary of circa basic £40k - £45k+ bonus + other benefits.

 

Location: Flexible location within travelling distance to either Cheltenham or Walsall for 1 day per week. The role will be a mixture of Office based, Field sales based covering own accounts and Field sales Technical Support accompaniments throughout the UK with other BDM’s

Job description: 

Technical Manager / Technical Sales Manager, required for a company who are a leading specialist producer of Fixings, Fasteners, components and accessories for the roofing and cladding industry, supplying primarily to Roofing and Cladding companies, Engineers, Project Managers, Architects and Main contractors.

The companies range of products includes, Fasteners, Support Bar System and Accessories (Rivets, sealants, Fillers, Tapes, Tools and sundries).

 

Objectives of Role:

 

To ensure the Company sales and profitability budget is achieved.

 

To provide national technical support to assist the Business Development Team in the consolidation and growth of the business. Via provision of Technical information, Technical Support and also via Field accompaniments with other Field based BDM’s to clients throughout the UK.

 

To manage  technical activities, focusing on customer orientated support in order to gain commercial advantage, whilst ensuring company product conformity to current legislation.

 

To perform the role of Business Development manager / Account Manager / Technical Sales Manager for own portfolio of accounts and New Business in a specific geographical area.

 

Responsibilities will include:

Technical Manager

 

  • Proactive provision of internal and external product / technical support / enquiry management as part of the Winning New Business team for the sale of companies products.
  • Demonstrating a comprehensive technical understanding of the full Company product range on a component by component level.
  • Attaining full technical competency in any relevant required calculations and the use of any associated calculation software.
  • Developing project proposals to maximise sales opportunities in support of Business Development and Sales.
  • Providing technical input and specification support to the Business Development function, contractors, architects and other third parties, and in conjunction with the marketing function, to promote key technical arguments in the market place to gain commercial advantage.
  • Undertaking any required technical function in support of the Business Development function including calculations and site visits where required.
  • Working with Business Development function to identify applications for new and modified products to satisfy potential future changes in demand brought about by changes in market and / or legislation.
  • Instigating, evolving and maintaining Company specific data to assist in gaining commercial advantage in the market place ie. product data sheets; good practice installation guides;
  • Management of technical queries and responding to customer complaints on technical issues beyond the scope of the internal sales function.
  • Acting as Technical Author for the production of technical literature and proposal document templates for the Business Development Team.
  • Liaising with website and literature design companies to assist in the production of all web based content and marketing literature.
  • Producing and conducting technical CPD and technical presentations on Company products and practices in support of the Business Development Team.

 

 

 

  • Undertaking SWOT Analysis of competitor products, identification of possible gaps in the product range, as well as new opportunities arising from market developments, and assessment of potential products which could be added to the Company range to help fill these voids.
  • Quality Control Analysis of existing products and direct liaison with both clients and suppliers in conflict resolution issues involving technical issues related to products.
  • Providing technical training to the Business Development Team and to the Internal Sales Team.

 

Personal Sales:

  • To agree and achieve area and product sales budgets / targets in conjunction with the National Sales Manager.
  • To keep in regular contact with cladding contractor accounts and introduce validated new customers in line with target and holding regular account development reviews.
  • To undertake adequate quality face-to-face appointments per week in line with management requirements.
  • To promote the company’s products to architects and specifiers to gain specification on current and future projects
  • Maintain and report accurate records of all call activity providing feedback to management on contact with existing and prospective customers, current and future projects, specification development, competitor activity

  • Number of training sessions delivered.
  • Monthly review of competitor products; review data logged.
  • Maintenance of records both manual and systems related

 

Skills / Experience;

 

You will have previous Technical experience / Business Development / Technical Sales / Specification Sales experience in a similar role, preferably in the Roofing or Cladding Industry however related trade experience would also be considered

 

Good Technical knowledge of roof and cladding systems, including components and accessories.

 

You may have an architectural, civil engineering background, with a good understanding of materials and different types of Fixings or you may have experience in a Technical support role in an industry associated with building products.

 

Excellent communication and people skills.

 

Good organisational skills

 

Commercial awareness.

 

Good general construction knowledge.

 

Ability to work in a high pressure Technical sales driven environment

 

Preferably have a relevant Construction Qualification.
